2012 Holiday Giving Back Campaign
Belcan's Engineering Group in Lexington, KY gave back during the Holiday season to the Lexington Humane Society. Danielle Purcell, Vera Carter and Michele Hammack delivered the check and very much enjoyed meeting the President, Susan Malcomb. Susan was thrilled that the Humane Society was chosen by the Belcan employees as a recipient for the second year in a row.
The Lexington Humane Society is a non-profit humane agency that is completely reliant upon private donations and community support. They take care of an average of 5,000 pets a year and offer many services such as a low-cost spay/neuter program and the Finders Keepers program whose goal is to match pets with the perfect owner along with training and free educational classes.
Northern Illinois Food Bank is a non-profit organization that engages the community in a commitment to feed our hungry neighbors. Across 13 counties, food manufacturers, local groceries, corporations, foundations, and individuals come together to donate food and funds, and evaluate and repack food for distribution to our more than 600 network partners – the food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and youth and senior feeding programs that serve more than 60,000 different people each week.
As part of the 2012 Holiday Giving Back Campaign, the Peoria Heavy Equipment office chose to support the St. Jude Children’s Hospital Midwest Affiliate, located in the Children’s Hospital of Illinois at OSF-Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois. St. Jude treats children with catastrophic diseases, regardless of their ability to pay, and they focus on research to find cures for childhood cancer. In 1962, the survival rate for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood cancer, was 4 percent. Today, the survival rate for this once deadly disease is 94 percent, thanks to research and treatment protocols developed at St. Jude.
General Manager Eric Cochrane presented the generous donation from Belcan to St. Jude Board of Directors. The Peoria office also donated $640 raised through a “Biggest Loser” contest. This check was presented by “Biggest Loser” winner Joshua Pierson to a Child Life Specialist, St. Jude Midwest Affiliate. An additional check for $402 was presented by Krissy Hidden who coordinated multiple fundraising efforts during the year including a bowling night, chili cook-off, spirit days, and ugly holiday sock & tie contests. Laurie Trompeter & Kyle Lewis from the Peoria office joined in the presentation as they were instrumental in the success of the program throughout the year. The Peoria office was pleased to donate over $6,000 to continue St. Jude’s life-saving work.
The CRC Team chose the Spina Bifida Coalition of Cincinnati as one of their Holiday Giving Back charities. Their mission is to promote the prevention of Spina Bifida and enhance the lives of all affected.
Spina Bifida is the most common permanently disabling birth defect in the US. I occurs when a baby’s spine fails to close properly during the first months of pregnancy. This causes full or partial paralysis and on-going medical challenges. However, most born with Spina Bifida can expect to live happy and fulfilling lives. Jarrett May (left) presented a $600 Belcan donation check to Executive Director Lynn Daniell of the Raleigh Rescue Mission. The Raleigh Rescue Mission was established over 50 years ago and has helped over 700,000 people in need. They continue to be successful in their mission today providing emergency overnight services, recovery and rehabilitation services, adult education services, children's development, and medical services to the needy. Raleigh Rescue Mission can provide one meal to someone in need for just $2.80. We are proud to support their organization!
Belcan's Raleigh office team leader, Jeff Ross, is handing a check to Tara Lee Dietrich, a representative from the Fisher House located on Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. In the attached picture, there is a photograph in the background of the original founder of the Fisher House Program, Zachary Fisher.
Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.
There is at least one Fisher House at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Annually, the Fisher House program serves more than 17,000 families, and have made available over four million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990. By law, there is no charge for any family to stay at a Fisher House, and per Tara, 100% of Belcan's donation will be utilized by the Fort Bragg Fisher House to help cover expenses for daily supplies, meals and utilities.
Belcan's Florence, KY office made a donation to the Stray Animal Adoption Program (SAAP). This is a nonprofit organization serving the Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati area since 1998. In 2012, the organization adopted out 1,289 animals. SAAP has adoption events every weekend at a PETSMART in Cincinnati, OH (the Western Hills PETSMART) and at petco in Fort Wright, KY. They can be seen on WLWT Channel 5 News every Sunday morning at 7:45am and also on WCPO Channel 9 News at least once each month on a Saturday at 8:20am . Belcan's Dallas TechServices office presented a check to the CEO of the VNA of Texas Meals on Wheels program. He was very kind in taking time out of his day to meet with us as well as inform us that our donation of $2205.00 will feed 2 individuals for over one and half years. The VNA of Texas Meals on Wheels program serves over 4,000 homebound seniors and disabled persons in Dallas county. This program has over 5,000 volunteers that help make this happen every day.
We were honored to be able to contribute to this wonderful service.
The Belcan Staffing office in Fairfield, OH donated $1,400 to Animal Friends Humane Society. They are a shelter that houses unwanted and adoptable pets. The money donated was used towards sponsoring 2 dogs and 2 cats, that will help support these animals in regards to food, medicine and any kind of surgery they may need for up to a year. When you sponsor a pet they create a plaque that will hang on that animals cage door for a year.
The Animal Friends Humane Society is Butler County’s Largest and oldest non-profit animal shelter. They typically house 200-300 animals. They are the only open admission shelter in Butler County. Open admission means they take pets, from aggressive animals to friendly animals, to deceased pets. Local support helps the near 8,000 animals they serve each year.
Belcan's Raleigh office employee, Kenneth Cherry, presented a $500 Belcan donation check to the Chief Development Officer, John Mitterling of the “Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle” organization. This organization’s mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 14, in Wake, Durham and Orange counties.
According to Mr. Mitterling, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle doesn’t receive any state or federal funding and it currently costs $1500 to match a big brother or big sister to one child. Expenses to make a match include extensive recruiting, interviewing, criminal background checks, drug screens and more.

“This will really, really help us get to our budget number by year end, which means we can make the final matches we need to make before December 31st. Thank you so much for choosing us.”
The Greenville Belcan Team presented a donation of $750 to Meals on Wheels’ Director of Community Relations, Julie Accetta. Meals on Wheels of Greenville delivers a nutritious, hot meal Monday through Friday to more than 1,380 homebound residents of Greenville County who have no means to prepare a nutritious meal for themselves and little or no support system to help them on a daily basis. For variety, menus are prepared on a 4 week rotation and vary based on a client’s diet restrictions, including vegetarian, renal, chopped, diabetic and pureed. Their volunteers monitor the welfare of each client on their route. They serve as a link between their clients and the Advocacy Department’s resource network, which includes other community-based services such as transportation, home health services, financial services, home repair and handicap access modifications. Many of their clients have dogs or cats and if food is limited in their home, they may choose to feed their Meals on Wheels meal to their pet, who may be the only companion they have. To ensure that both owner and pet have the nutrition they need to remain in their home together, Meals on Wheels deliver pet food twice a month to more than 250 clients. They depend on donations of unopened dog and cat food to meet our client's needs. Thank you to Catriona Carlisle, Meals on Wheels’ Director of Development, for arranging a tour of their facility which allowed us to see firsthand how their operation functions in supporting individuals as well as the community.
Belcan's Lawrenceburg, IN office gave back this Holiday season by donating money to the Greendale Baptist church food pantry. Donna Hutton is with Greendale Baptist church food pantry, they provide food for 700 families monthly.
The Lawrenceburg office also donated money to the Dearborn community foundation warm the children’s fund. Andrea Nappier is with the foundation, they provide coats, hats & clothing to needy families.
Gaithersburg TechServices had the pleasure of participating in Belcan’s charitable giving back campaign. Our team visited the Ronald McDonald House in Baltimore, MD. On behalf of Belcan, we were able to give a donation of $1,012.50. We also visited the Wounded Warrior Project in Washington, DC, and were proud to be able to donate $1,012.50 to that organization as well.
Mark Kenny and myself (Jay Frattini) spent time at The Ronald McDonald House in Charlotte. We had a tour of the 36,000 square foot, 28 bedroom facility, and presented Mona Johnson-Gibson, Executive Director a check for $750.00. In the 18 months the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte has been open, they have had 795 families from the region and beyond come and stay so they could provide the families with “home away from home” comfort. We also travelled up to the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC and spent time with Lisa Starnes, Director Speedway Children’s Charities. Speedway Children’s Charities raises funds for distribution to charitable organizations that provide medical, social, and educational services to children in need. We presented a $750.00 check to Lisa Starnes. Earlier this week the Greenville Belcan Team presented a donation of $750 to Goodwill Industries’. Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina is a 501(c)3 organization committed to helping people become independent through education and training leading to employment. With the support of the community in Upstate and Midlands South Carolina, Goodwill Industries has touched 38,892 lives in the past year and offered direct employment placement assistance to 7,282 people. These services created an economic impact on the community of over $123 million through the wages of people Goodwill placed into employment. Thank you to Paul Callahan, Goodwill’s Development Manager, for arranging a tour of their facility which allowed us to see firsthand how their operation functions in supporting individuals as well as the community.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide information on how the Barrett-Davis-Watson American Legion Post 233 located in Loganville provides assistance to needy veterans, their families and our community in general. The incorporated name of our Post is the Barrett-Davis-Watson Post No. 233 and our mailing address is above. We are a 501(c) non-profit corporation and our federal identification number is 58-6101711.
Our American Legion mission includes support for veterans and their families who may be in need, i.e., rent, utilities, food, etc. Annually, we provide Christmas packages (toys, fruit baskets, etc.) to local veterans and other families that are in need. We also provide support to other individuals and families in our community who may be in need of this same type of support. Our American Legion Post also supports our local veterans homes and VA medical centers.
The main limitation facing Post 233 is the amount of funding available to support these community activities. All donations received by Post 233 are used to support the programs listed above. If you have any questions concerning our Post or our mission, please contact me.
Cleveland TechServices participated in Belcan's charitable giving campaign. Our team chose to give to Akron Pediatric Heart Center. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mike & Candace McCaw for allowing our team to experience this wonderful feeling of giving back. The team at Akron's Pediatric Heart Center where so appreciated that Belcan made a donation to support their efforts in providing great care to children. The Belcan team members received a tour of the facility and spent some time with one of the great heart surgeon's in our area.

Belcan Engineering giving back to local communities
As part of Belcan Engineering Corp’s commitment to giving back to the local communities, Belcan Engineering made a charitable donation of $1,600 to the Knox County Marine “Toys for Tots” program. Belcan Engineering is based in Cincinnati, OH and is an engineering and staffing service provider to end customers in a variety of industries, including the gas turbine industry.
In addition to the monetary donation from the company, Belcan employees personally donated many toys that they had purchased for donation.
The donations were dropped off at the Mt Vernon Fire Department, where the local firemen and staff were extremely grateful and volunteered to assist in capturing the spirit of the holidays by holding some of the toys for a picture with the Belcan representatives in front of their fire engine.
According to the Mt Vernon Fire Department staff, with only one week left for collection, toy donations were significantly down this year. The Belcan donation provided a huge sense of relief and renewed confidence in the ability to provide enough toys for less fortunate children in Knox County, OH during the holidays.

Our Giving Tree may have been small but the hearts of Belcan employees are not. Thanks to their generosity Santa, with the help of the Salvation Army elves, will be able to spread some happiness to the children in the community by putting presents under their trees.
The Automation Group chose the Salvation Army as their charity this year. Employees donated toys to the cause and the corporate contribution went toward food for families in need. Thanks to the Belcan Holiday Giving Back Campaign the holidays will be much brighter for a lot of families in the area.

Belcan's Dayton staffing office donated funds for the 2012 Holiday Giving Back Campaign to United Rehabilitation Services. They offer a wide variety of services for people with disabilities and their families.
Belcan HED Lafayette employees have chosen the Lafayette Transitional Housing Center, www.lthc.net, as the recipient of their Belcan Season of Giving fund drive. HED employees presented LTHC with a total of $1200 to be used to provide transitional housing services in the Lafayette area.
Freestore Foodbank Donations
Belcan’s generous group of employees provided the Freestore Foodbank in Cincinnati with over 110 Thanksgiving Day Meals plus numerous boxes of additional food items.

East Hartford supports local United Way
Belcan's East Hartford, CT office recently had the opportunity to assist Steve Anastasio who has suffered from Spina Bifida all his life.
ING and Hartford Marathon Foundation (HMF) both support the local United Way Hartford chapter.
HMF recognized Steve Anastasio for the ING Half marathon to be a part of their 2012 Elite Inspirational team, however even though Steve’s entry was free to do the 13.1 mile trek, he still needed assistance because in order to participate his chair needed new wheels and other adjustments.
The branch collectively raised $200.00 for these improvements.
As an office we were able to not only participate in a United Way event, we were able to help out a member in our community.

Belcan Employees Give Time to Ronald McDonald House

Belcan Corporation employees will put the company’s core belief of “Giving Back to Our Communities” into action by participating in a coordinated volunteer effort for the Ronald McDonald House Charities in several locations over the next few months.
Teams of Belcan employees have signed up to prepare snacks for the families staying in the houses, as well as other volunteer duties. To date, an overwhelming number of employees have pledged their personal time to the cause, filling up numerous shifts at the houses.
“We are so excited to help the Ronald McDonald House with its important mission,” said Amanda McCaw and Kimberly Borkoski of Belcan Community Relations. “Belcan believes that although supporting charities financially is important, so is giving your time. We are fortunate to have great employees who are so willing to donate their valuable hours to a great cause.”
Belcan has partnered with the Ronald McDonald House Charities to help the organization offer all the comforts of home to every family with a hospitalized child. Belcan has sponsored a room in the Cincinnati house and provides ongoing financial support, but the company has also pledged to increase its volunteer participation this year.
“We could not ask for a better corporate partner. Belcan’s financial support has brought comfort to hundreds of families in their time of need,” said Jennifer Goodin, Executive Director of Cincinnati’s Ronald McDonald House. “We look forward to having Belcan’s employees volunteer at Ronald McDonald House, and we know that their compassion and generosity will truly make a difference in the lives of critically ill children and their families.”
